City hosts Dizzy Dean tourneys

Eupora had a nice turnout as host site for the 2009 Mississippi Dizzy Dean South Half 8-and-under baseball and softball tournaments, according to city Park Director Mike Narmour.

The tournaments were played Friday-Monday at Gary Park. Participating teams were Eupora, Mathiston, Ackerman, Carrollton, Columbus, East Central, Greenwood, Houston, Louisville, Philadelphia, Starkville, West Point and Winona.

Boys' winner was Starkville, with West Point placing second and Columbus third. Carrollton received the Sportsmanship Award.

Philadelphia was the boys' winner, with Houston placing second and West Point third. Mathiston received the Sportsmanship Award.

Narmour said everything went well except for a rain delay of about three hours Monday. Some fall ball tournaments are scheduled before soccer season begins, he said.
