Grant awarded MMSA in Webster County

Congressman Travis Childers, D-Booneville, has announced an Appalachian Regional Commission grant of $10,000 to the Mississippi Main Street Association for the Mississippi Main Street Economic Development Charrette and Technical Assistance Program.

This project will provide supplemental funds for the economic development charrette conducted in May for Eupora and surrounding towns in Webster County.

"During these tough times, it essential to provide our communities with the tools they need to jumpstart economic development projects," said Childers. "These significant funds will help provide development guidance to Webster County communities, contributing to their revitalization and economic growth."

The project activities include a one-day assessment, an enhanced four-day charrette and follow-up town meetings to go over findings and proposed projects. A follow-up technical assistance component will assist these towns to develop a committee structure similar to the Main Street Program: organization, promotion, design and economic restructuring. This capacity-building approach will give each community the vision and tools to move projects forward and to create economic impact.

In addition to ARC funds, local sources will provide $2,500, bringing the total project funding to $12,500.
