Runoffs set in supervisor races

WALTHALL - The outcome of Tuesday's special election for two supervisor seats has resulted in runoffs between the top two contenders in each race.

In District 2, the runoff will be between Pat Cummings and interim Supervisor Ruthie McCain Salley. The second round in District 4 will be between Paul Crowley and Field Johnson. Runoffs have been scheduled for Nov. 24 because no candidate secured an outright majority of the votes cast in either race.

The winners of the runoff elections will fill unexpired terms on the Webster County Board of Supervisors of the late Mart Salley and Larry Crowley.

According to complete but unofficial results, Cummings led District 2 with 172 votes, or 24 percent. Salley came in second with 124 votes, or 17 percent.

Other candidates in that district and their percentages (rounded off) were Rodney Crowell, 15 percent; Mike "Pee Wee" Davis, 12 percent; Beau Powell, 10 percent; Ronald Castle, 9 percent; Leon Long and Thomas Allen Dorroh, both 6 percent; and Joyce A. Pepper, 1 percent.

In unofficial numbers from District 4, Paul Crowley was the top finisher with 318 votes, or 43 percent, to Johnson's 157 votes, or 21 percent.

Other District 4 candidates and their percentages (rounded off) were Earl Frost, 13 percent; David Kirkman, 10 percent; Mike Adams, 6 percent, Marty Kilpatrick, 5 percent; Chris Lott, 1 percent; and Cherraye Oats, 0.41 percent.

These totals do not include affidavit votes, which were to be verified Wednesday during certification of official results. Forty-eight percent of the registered voters in both districts combined turned out, according to the election summary report
