Supervisor runoff races Tuesday
Four candidates for two seats on the Webster County Board of Supervisors will square off in runoff races next Tuesday.
Districts 2 and 4 supervisor positions will be on the runoff election ballots Nov. 24, when polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in both districts. Election precincts in District 2 are Eupora No. 2, Walthall, Bellefontaine and Cadaretta. Election precincts in District 4 are Mathiston, Maben and Big Black.
District 2 candidates are Pat Cummings and Ruthie McCain Salley, who is serving as interim supervisor. District 4 candidates are Paul Crowley and Field Johnson. They were the top vote-getters in their respective districts in the Nov. 3 special election.
Cummings captured the most votes in District 2's special election with 174 while Salley was second with 124. Cummings led in all District 2 precincts except Eupora No. 2, where Mike "Pee Wee" Davis garnered the most votes among the nine candidates.
Crowley had the most votes in District 4 with 320 while Johnson was second with 157. Crowley received the most votes from a field of eight candidates in all District 4 precincts on Nov. 3.
Eligible voters may cast absentee ballots at the circuit clerk's office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Friday, and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Salley was appointed following the death of her husband, Mart Salley. Linda Crowley, who is serving as interim District 4 supervisor, was appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the death of her husband, Larry Crowley. Those elected Tuesday will serve out the unexpired terms through 2011.
