A house trailer fire last week in Walthall left a family of seven homeless.
The fire occurred about 11:15 p.m. Sept. 29 on County Home Road. Walthall Fire Chief Benny Neal said the front half of the house trailer occupied by Scott and Tammy Ditmar and five children was ablaze when firefighters arrived, and was destroyed by the fire.
Neal said the family fled out the back of the trailer after discovering the fire. Three members of the family were reported to have been treated at the Burn Center at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville for smoke inhalation and later released.
The Ditmars believe that the possible cause of the fire was an electric heater in the front part of the house, according to Neal. The Eupora Fire Department provided backup to the Walthall Fire Department.
The Ditmars are living with another family in their trailer house in Walthall at this time. The children are John, Anthony, Amber and toddlers Seth and Marcus. Anyone wishing to donate money, clothing, bed linen or anything else to the family may contact Walthall Baptist Church for clothing sizes or other information. Office hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and the phone number is 258-3259.
