The Webster County School Board elected officers at its first meeting of the year.
Phyllis Graham was elected president; Etty P. Brown was elected vice president and Keith Hudspeth was elected secretary for 2004, according to the Jan. 6 board minutes. Hudspeth served as president last year, while Dr. Chester Lott served as vice president and Michael Knight was secretary.
Upon the recommendation of new Superintendent of Education Jimmy Pittman, the school trustees reappointed Hugh Gibson as board attorney for 2004.
Also at the meeting, the board approved a motion that the salary for Pittman remain the same as it was for the previous superintendent, Pete Powell, which is $72,493 annually.
In other action, the board:
approved payments of $2,300 to Judy Clanton, Eupora Elementary School teacher, and $300 to Janice Gardner, Vocational Center teacher, for reimbursement for Master Teacher certification.
accepted the transfer of student Wilson Blake Vance from Calhoun County to Eupora High School upon the recommendation of EHS Principal James Mason. The decision on this transfer was tabled at the previous board meeting and Mason had been instructed to investigate the matter and report his recommendation to the board.
approved a request from Tammy Weeks, East Webster High School janitor and bus driver, for her daughter to transfer from Eupora to East Webster because of her employment there.
approved a recommendation from insurance agent Sandra Dewberry that the school district change to Zurich Insurance Co. for its legal liability policy.
Lott was absent Jan. 6. The board's next regular meeting will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 3.
