Maben welcoming

home troops

The town of Maben will have a thank-you and welcome-home celebration for troops in the Mississippi Army National Guard's 223rd Engineer Battalion on March 27 at W.O. Shivers Park.

The battalion, headquartered in West Point, returned home earlier this month following a one-year tour of duty in Iraq.

Parade lineup will begin at 10:15 a.m. at the old hospital.

Barbecue donated by Bryan Foods and Sansing Meat Service and beverages donated by Coca-Cola will be served beginning at 10:30 am.

The service begins at 10:45 a.m.

Mt. Zion baby shower

A baby shower for Jennifer McGary will be March 28 from 2-4 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Ward 1 election

The city of Eupora will conduct a special election on April 6 for Ward 1 alderman. The deadline for candidates to qualify is 5 p.m. March 26. Details: 258-2291.

Kindergarten sign-up

Webster County Schools announce their kindergarten registration for the upcoming 2004-05 school year. Registration will be conducted at East Webster Elementary and Eupora Elementary on April 1 from noon until 7:30 p.m. and again on April 2 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

A parent workshop and kindergarten open house will be April 1 at 5 p.m. at Eupora Elementary and at 6 p.m. at East Webster Elementary. The presenter at the workshops will be Lynn McCafferty of the Webster Care Learning Center. Parents should bring these items for enrollment: child's original certified birth certificate, child's Social Security card, child's complete immunization sheet and two proofs of residency in Webster County.

Main Street meeting A countywide Mississippi Main Street Association meeting will be at 6 p.m. April 13 at the Eupora Depot. Bob Wilson will be discussing the implementation of the Main Street program in Webster County. Organizers encourage the public to attend and discuss.

EWHS Spring Showcase

East Webster High School will have a Spring Showcase from 5-9 p.m. May 7, sponsored by the PTO. Open house will run from 5-6 p.m. The spring choral program, presented by the EWH chorus, will begin at 7 p.m. followed by a gospel singing.

Food and games will begin at 5:30 p.m. Upcoming seventh-graders and parents are invited to come meet the teachers.
