Fire destroyed an unoccupied manufactured home that officials said exploded last week in the Fame community.
The fire was reported about 7:25 p.m. March 31. Clarkson/Fame Fire Chief Tony Pritchard said the vacant doublewide trailer was located at the intersection of Vickers and Love roads.
Sheriff Reuben McCluskey said neighbors reported a loud explosion before the fire occurred. The trailer was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, according to Pritchard. Clarkson/Fame and Walthall firefighters responded.
"The two ends were all that was left," he said of the resulting damage.
A state fire marshal investigated the scene the next day and Pritchard said the cause is unknown. The trailer was owned by a Houston resident who had leased it to a hunting club, according to the fire chief.
The Clarkson/Fame Fire Department also responded to a house fire last week at the Jack Griffin residence on Mantee Road. It was reported about 9:25 p.m. March 29.
The fire occurred in the kitchen after a skillet had been left on the stove, Pritchard said. No one was at home at the time.
The blaze went through the stove vent, he said, and firefighters were able to extinguish it quickly. The fire caused considerable damage in the kitchen and attic. The Mantee Fire Department provided backup.
