James L. 'Jim' Boland

James L. "Jim" Boland, 69, of 1230 Highway 9 South, Calhoun City, died June 23, 2004, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Mr. Boland was born Aug. 28, 1934, in Calhoun County. He retired after 33 years with Heatcraft and was a veteran. Mr. Boland was a member of Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church in Calhoun City but attended Bethany Baptist church in Slate Springs. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a great friend to all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Irma West Boland of Calhoun City; one daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Greg Ayers of Brandon; one son and daughter-in-law, Jon Mark and Stephanie Boland of Maben; two sisters, Ann Love of Houston and Sue Upshaw of Calhoun City; one brother, Emmett Boland of Lexington, Ky.; and three grandchildren, Cody West Boland, Nicole Grace Ayers and Krystle Boland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett Boland and Mary Lester Boland; a son, Jimmy Boland; two sisters, Letha Odom and Frances Gregg; one brother, Robert Boland; and a granddaughter, Emily Grace Boland.

Services were June 26 at Pryor Funeral Home Chapel in Calhoun City with the Revs. Jim Vance and Raymond Grabert officiating. Burial was in Vance Cemetery with the Rev. Dan Wright officiating at graveside.

Pallbearers were David Doolittle, Robert Doolittle, Billy Frank Funderburg, Robert Norman, Laderle Doler and Randy Hubbard.

Honorary pallbearers were T.J. Helms, Carl Oglesby, Charles Lovorn, Winfred Patterson, Richard Ayers and Delaine McMullen.

Josie Faye Bowen

Josie Faye Bowen, 70, of Mathiston died June 21, 2004, at the University of Alabama-Birmingham Medical Center.

Mrs. Bowen was born May 12, 1934, in Webster County. She was a former employee of Mersman and a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Sidon.

Survivors include her husband, Tommy Bowen of Mathiston; one daughter, Barbara Wooten of Mathiston; one brother, Herman Carroll of Sidon; two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were June 23 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery. The Rev. Ken Salley officiated.

Pallbearers were Don Bowen, Mike Burson, Louis Conner, John Jenkins, Jerry Carroll and Dale Ray.

Burl Flemings

Burl Flemings, 71, of Tomnolen died June 24, 2004, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Mr. Flemings, a retired chef, was born Aug. 30, 1932, in Tomnolen. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include three daughters, Susan Luedke and Debbie Razavi of Dallas; and Pat Hodges of Oklahoma City; four sons, Ronnie Flemings of Dallas, Thomas Flemings and Jon Flemings of Clarkson, and Jessie Flemings of Eupora; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services were June 26 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Montevista Cemetery. The Rev. John Lancaster officiated.

Pallbearers were Goob Lamb, Glen Helms, Wade Worrells, Harold Breazeale, Jim Martin and Keith Spencer.

Prentiss 'Sonny Boy' Henley Sr.

Prentiss "Sonny Boy" Henley Sr., 87, of Heidelberg died June 26, 2004, at South Central Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Henley was retired from B&B Oil Service.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ance Dowling Henley of Heidelberg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Kare Henley of Laurel and Prentiss and Lynn Henley of Heidelberg; two daughters and a son-in-law, Connie and Randall Coker of Laurel and Marie Henley of Heidelberg; three brothers, Dick Henley of Zachary, La., James Henley of Northport, Ala., and Cook Henley of Eupora; two sisters, Mary Davis of Brandon and Bill Elkins of Moultrie, Ga.; his former daughter-in-law, Debbie Henley of Heidelberg; five grandchildren, Ben Coker and his wife, Jennifer, Adam Coker, Keri Henley, Christopher Henley, Michelle Landrum and her husband, Bo; and three great-grandchildren, Abby Coker, Justin Landrum and Conner Landrum.

Services were June 28 at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Heidelberg with burial in the church cemetery. The Revs. Mike Moss and Jimmy Holder officiated.

Pallbearers were Ben Coker, Adam Coker, Christopher Henley, Bo Landrum, George Dowling Jr. and Jeff Kersh.

Memory Chapel Funeral Home of Laurel was in charge of arrangements.

William Christopher McKibben

William Christopher McKibben, 26, of Gaithersburg, Md., died May 28, 2004, following an automobile accident.

Survivors include his mother, Jeannette Morris McKibben of Gaithersburg; one sister, Cynthia Landrum of Ackerman; two brothers, Sam McKibben of Ackerman and Sullivan McKibben of Eupora; one sister-in-law, Margie McKibben of Eupora; his aunts and uncles, James and Mildred Vaughn of Woodland, Margie Ricks of Boyle, Shirley Buckner of Eupora, and James and Loretta Norris of Scottsboro, Ala.; his fiance, Patricia Lynn McVay of Gaithersburg; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jurney R. McKibben of Ackerman; and a brother J.R. McKibben of Eupora.

Services were June 11 at Free Methodist Church in Rockville, Md., with interment in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Md.

Simple Tribute Funeral Home of Rockville was in charge of arrangements.

William Elmer Putnam

William Elmer Putnam, 74, of Eupora died June 10, 2004, at his residence.

Mr. Putnam, a retired electrician, was born in Webster County on Jan. 22, 1930. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lovey Putnam of Eupora; three daughters, Sue Ann Morgan of Sturgis, Kathy Booth of Eupora and Beth McGuigan of Canada; one sister, Joy Ann Luck of Cordova, Tenn.; one brother, Victor Putnam of Montgomery, Ala.; six grandchildren and two grandchildren.

Services were June 12 at Oliver Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Wood Springs Cemetery. The Revs. Martin Jacks and William S. Stewart officiated.

Pallbearers were Kevin Putnam, Jake Johnson, Roger Young, John Stephenson, Mike Nail, Michael Washam and Andy Whitehead.

Ola Peeples Yarborough

Ola Peeples Yarborough, 97, of Eupora died June 26, 2004, at North Mississippi Medical Center Long-Term Care Unit in Eupora.

Mrs. Yarborough, a homemaker, was born in Webster County on Aug. 4, 1906. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include three stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Allene Y. and Harold Wells, Helen Y. and Cecil Bowen, and Dorothy Y. and Mancill Embry, all of Eupora; three sisters, Corrie P. Baswell of Sturgis, Hattie P. Pyron of Grenada and Odine P. Palmore of Memphis, Tenn; three brothers, Dewey Peeples of Cleveland, Pervie Peeples of Atlanta and Earl Peeples of Memphis; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Yarborough was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Yarborough; infant son, Robert Ray Yarborough; and brothers Wade and Lloyd Peeples.

Services were June 28 at Fellowship Baptist Church with burial in North Union Cemetery. The Revs. Jimmy Latham, William S. Weddle and Larry Creel officiated.

Pallbearers were Raymond Hitt, Jack Knight, Charles Hitt, Joe C. Evans, James H. Evans and Rufus Marter.
