Prospective candidates for two seats on the Webster County School Board and five county election commissioner posts have one more week to qualify.
The filing deadline is 5 p.m. Sept. 3. To qualify, candidates must have 50 signatures from registered voters to present at the circuit clerk's office in the Courthouse.
Voters in districts 1 and 2 will elect School Board members to six-year terms on Nov. 2. Charles Bailey was the only candidate to file as of Tuesday afternoon for either seat. Bailey, of 306 E. Fox Ave., Eupora, filed qualifying papers for the District 2 post on Aug. 18, according to the circuit clerk's office.
Michael Knight now represents District 2 and Phyllis Graham represents District 1 on the School Board.
Voters in each of the five supervisors' districts will choose an election commissioner in November to serve a four-year term. No candidates for those positions had qualified as of Tuesday afternoon.
Sept. 20 is the earliest day to vote absentee in the circuit clerk's office for the general election or to apply for an absentee ballot by mail. Oct. 1 is the last day to register to vote for the general election in the circuit clerk's office, if the clerk's office is not open Saturday, Oct. 2.
Mail-in voter registration forms should be mailed or delivered no later than Oct. 1.
Circuit clerks' offices must remain open until noon the two Saturdays before the election for absentee balloting for the general election. Oct. 30 at noon is the last day to vote by absentee ballot.
Some of the Mississippi races on the November ballot include the Supreme Court Justice seat and U.S. House of Representatives post.
