Luncheon event accomplishes goals
From press reports
The Webster County B.A.T.T.L.E. Luncheon for Breast Cancer Awareness was held on Friday, October 22 in the Family Life Center of the Eupora First Baptist Church. The past two previous years events were held by the Eupora Twentieth Century and NMMC - Eupora Hospital but this is the first year for Webster County to hold a B.A.T.T.L.E. Luncheon.
The B.A.T.T.L.E. Luncheon is a very effective way to encourage women and men in the area to understand the ways to help fight and prevent breast cancer. The luncheon program this year featured a video presented by Pat Owen, Area Health Agent with the MSU Extension Service, entitled "Hats Off To Health." The video focused on the many reasons given for not getting a mammogram and how important it is not to let those reasons get in the way of taking care of your health. Following the video, Dr. Chester Lott, shared important information concerning breast cancer with the audience. He stressed the importance of regular mammography and having them done in the same place so your records are available for comparison from one year to the next so changes can be easily detected. For those women who have already had to have biopsies done of lumps, he stressed how important it is that you know the cytology of that lump. He stressed to the group that early detection is key to surviving breast cancer.
Plans are already underway for the coming year. If you would like to help in conducting the luncheon next year please contact Cynthia Wilson at the Webster County Extension Office.
