A house on Bowen Road east of Eupora on the north side of 182 was gutted by fire Saturday afternoon.
No one was injured in the fire but the homeowner, Reva Bowen, after being overcome with smoke, was taken by ambulance to North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora. She was treated and released within a few hours.
Bowen had been cooking chicken on the stove, according to Eupora Fire Department reports, when the grease the food was cooking in flamed up and ignited the kitchen area.
The fire was reported at 3:30 p.m. and the Eupora Fire Department and several other departments responded shortly to the scene.
Firefighters were called back out when a small fire reignited in the attic that night around 11 p.m.. Walthall, Mathiston and Tomnolen fire departments provided mutual aid at the initial fire.
