District 3 voters to return for Nov. 22 runoff
From Staff Reports
Voters in Webster County's District 3 head back to the polls Tuesday to decide a runoff in a special supervisor election.
Janice Lamb and Charles Rivers emerged Nov. 8 from a field of nine candidates to make the Nov. 22 runoff.
Official results as certified by the Webster County Election Commission show that of the 740 votes cast, Rivers had 238 or 32 percent, and Lamb had 141 or 19 percent. They're competing to fill the remaining two years in the late Lynn Lamb's term.
Lamb was appointed interim supervisor until the special election is decided; Rivers is District 3 road foreman.
Absentee ballots are now available and the circuit clerk's office at the Courthouse in Walthall will be open from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday for absentee voting.
About 51 percent of District 3's voters turned out for last week's election. Circuit Clerk Deborah Hood Neal stressed the importance of coming out to vote for the deciding runoff, especially those who voted in the first election.
The other candidates in last week's nonpartisan special election were Phillip Smith, who received 105 votes; Danny Hubbard, 70 votes; Dale Boatman, 60 votes; Buster Duvall, 51 votes; Mark Burton, 39 votes; Earl Baker, 22 votes; and Mike Gary, 14 votes; according to official results.
