Most members of the 155th Brigade Combat Team will be home by Christmas, says Gov. Haley Barbour, with others back no later than Jan. 15.

Several hundred members of the 155th from across the state have already arrived stateside.

"It's a big relief and a joy to be home," said Sgt. Anthony Sheets of Louisville to the Associated Press. "I'm glad we had an opportunity to go and help the world and the people of Iraq. Now, I'm going to take off a lot of time and do a lot of hunting and fishing."

Sheets along with other members of the 155th from across the state and country arrived in Gulfport, Mississippi on Friday and Saturday. Each soldier is set to be processed through Camp Shelby where they will undergo a five-day debriefing followed by some time off.

The 155th SAB comprises units in 49 locations throughout the state. They include the 2nd Battalion, 114th Field Artillery headquartered in Starkville, which has an authorized strength of 607 soldiers. The unit includes Bravo Battery in Ackerman and Detachment 1 in Eupora.

The Ackerman detachment received mobilization orders on June 28, 2004 .

The 155th is a nearly 4,000-member guard unit, of which about 3,500 are from Mississippi.
