Eupora's Lady Eagles have advanced in the Class 2A state fast-pitch softball playoffs to the semifinals as they seek the North State title.
Eupora (25-4), the Division 3 winner, plays Division 4 winner St. Joseph High School of Greenville (24-8) at Millsaps College in Jackson this Saturday. Game 1 begins at 1 p.m. followed by Game 2 in the best 2 of 3 series. A third game, if necessary, is to be played Monday at Eupora.
The winner will face either Clarksdale or Enterprise Clarke in the state championship, Game 1 of which is set for 6 p.m. May 4 at the North site. Game 2 is to be played May 6 at the South site at 1 p.m. and Game 3, if necessary, at 3:30 p.m.
In second-round action last week, Eupora defeated Ackerman 9-2 there on April 20 and 3-0 at home on Saturday.
In Game 1 for Eupora, Edie Oliver struck out 15, and Cydney Dean and Kandi Ray had homeruns. Oliver, Kinsey Rico and Taiwanna Pittman doubled. In Game 2, Dean struck out five and gave up three hits while Oliver gave up two hits as the winning pitcher.

Eupora baseball team eliminated in 1st round
The Eupora Eagles were eliminated in the first round of the Class 2A baseball playoffs last week.
In the double-elimination tournament hosted by Hollandale Simmons, Eupora defeated Riverside 16-1 on April 20.
On Friday, Eupora lost to Hollandale Simmons 5-2 and to Mantachie 6-3.
The Eagles placed second in the division and ended their 2006 season with a 16-6 record under head coach Lee Berryhill.
