From Staff Reports

Fire destroyed the home of H.L. "Hop" Alford on Jackson Road shortly after 8 p.m. Monday, according to Cumberland Fire Chief Mike Collins.

The Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call and upon arrival found the structure totally involved, Collins stated. Alford, the home's only occupant, escaped the blaze.

Firefighters from Mathiston and Clarkson-Fame assisted Cumberland volunteers in battling the blaze.

Alford lost a majority of his belongings in the blaze, according to Collins, and a fund has been established at Cadence Bank for donations. The account is listed as the H.L. Alford Fire Fund Account, or one may contact the Alford family.
