City and county authorities arrested three men in past weeks on felony drug-related charges.

Sheriff's deputies arrested two of them on Aug. 29. Norman T. James, 43, and William Hurst, 32, are charged with possession of precursors with intent to manufacture meth.

Justice Court Judge Rebecca Ellison had initial hearings for them on Aug. 30, when she set bonds at $25,000 for James and $10,000 for Hurst. James posted on bond on Sept. 10 but the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and DeSoto County authorities have placed holds on Hurst's release, according to Webster County Jail records.

In an unrelated case, Eupora police officers on Sept. 7 arrested Lavern Manuel on a charge of transfer of crack cocaine.

Police Chief Gregg Hunter said Manuel, 50, was arrested at his residence at 700 Highway 9 S., Apt. 5. The police affidavit filed against Manuel alleges that he transferred crack cocaine on East Fox Avenue on June 23. He remained in the county jail as of Monday in lieu of a $10,000 bond.

"We appreciate the concern in our community that our citizens have, and please call if you suspect any criminal activity day or night," said Hunter.r.
