Eupora's downtown changed forever Wednesday as fire engulfed Tower Loan on the East Side of Dunn Street and traveled into several of the adjacent buildings.
With the landscaped scarred, over 75 citizens watched from High Street as over 100 firefighters from numerous departments battled the blaze and contained it.
Tower Loan employees notified the Eupora Police and Fire Department at 1:46 pm. of the fire.
Firefighters from Eupora, Ackerman, Tomnolen, Walthall, Clarkson, Mathiston, Slate Springs, Calhoun City, a battalion and ladder truck from Starkville, Grenada and many more descended upon the blaze that had engulfed a large portion of the East side of Dunn street, Eupora's main business district.
The 100 plus firefighters managed to halt the spread of the flames toward the North at the BLY Performing Arts building. The BLY received heat and smoke damage but was spared from the flames. Several buildings South of Tower Loan did succumb to the heat and the blaze caused structural damage which lead to their collapse and destruction.
The Tower Loan building was completely destroyed along with Beird's Refrigeration.
As the fire was battle and contained, several dozen citizens gathered on the end of high street across from the burned out and demolished buildings to watch the firefighters work and to see the aged structures be pulled onto the street to help further contain the fire from spreading.
Due to press and inserting deadlines updates will follow on the web at www.websterprogresstimes.com and in next week's edition.
