Municipal and county boards in Webster County shared goals they had set at the Nov. 16 meeting of the Council of Government.
About 10 elected officials representing Eupora, Mantee, Walthall and Webster County attended the meeting, which was facilitated by Cynthia Wilson of the Webster County Development Council.
Those present at the Depot shared goals in order to gain information from one another to help in accomplishing the goals each community set during previous long-range planning sessions.
Wilson pointed out that litter control and improving overall appearance was one thing that ran through all of the goals that were set.
Eupora Mayor Tommy Lott said the city's blight ordinance and junk vehicle ordinance are not a quick fix but will be a continuing process of enforcement. Alderman Dan Burchfield said nearly all offenders who are contacted by letter and requested to clean up their property respond promptly but that the rest don't care. He said this includes not just individuals but some businesses as well.
During discussion of grants, Wilson encouraged the officials to resubmit their applications for Small Municipalities and Limited Population Grants next year. All of the city and county boards applied for such grants this year, but only the Board of Supervisors' application resulted in the county obtaining $150,000 to help light the Highway 82-9 intersection.
"You really have to take advantage of any grant opportunities out there," Wilson stressed.
Before adjourning, Wilson assigned the governmental entities to select their most important goal. The local leaders will have a chance to share their priority goal with various funding agencies in February and ask them how they can help their community reach that goal.
County supervisors who were present agreed that their most important goal was attracting jobs, in addition to completing the Enhanced 911 system for all county residents.
