HCC night classes

Holmes Community College will have registration for evening classes taught in Webster County on Jan. 11 from 4-6:30 p.m. at the Webster County Career and Technology Center in Eupora. Classes begin on Jan. 17.

English Composition II and Human Growth and Development will be taught on Monday (these classes begin on Jan. 22 because of the holiday on Jan. 15); College Algebra, Intermediate Algebra and Beginning Algebra on Wednesday; Western Civilization I, Music Appreciation and Microcomputer Applications on Thursday.

Band Boosters

The Eupora Band Booster will meet Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. in the EHS Band Hall.

"Orion and His Children" to be shown at Rainwater

Observatory

"Orion and His Children" is the title of a program to be given at Rainwater Observatory near French Camp on Friday, January 12, at 7 p.m. The constellation Orion is the site of the closest region of star forming. The program will reveal some of the mythology of this winter constellation and how stars form in the dust clouds of the region. After the talk, there will be an opportunity for observing objects through the observatory's telescope.

Blood drives

United Blood Services will conduct two upcoming blood drives in Eupora.

The bloodmobile will be parked at Movie Gallery, 317 E. Roane Ave., on Jan. 13 from 2-7 p.m. Call 258-4344 for more information. Another blood drive is scheduled for Jan. 30 from 8 a.m.-noon at Hawkeye Glove in Eupora. Call Charles at 258-3200 for more information.

Donors must be at least 17, weigh 110 ponds and be in good health. Most medications are acceptable, but people should bring a list of their medications when they come to donate.

Longview Opry

Enjoy music, food and fun at the Longview Opry on Highway 12 in Longview every Saturday at 6 p.m. Talent is welcome. Admission is free.

Bingo will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 13 at VFW Post 3806 in Eupora.

School Board meeting

The date of the next Webster County School Board meeting has been changed to Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. in the boardroom of the Central Office Building.

This will be the only board meeting in January.

'I Have A Dream'

"I Have A Dream," Reel and Golden's Gospel Kickoff 2007, will be Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Houlka Community Center.

The Rev. Joe Reel, pastor of Greenwood M.B. Church in West Point and Harpole M.B. Church in Maben, will give the opening invitation.

Special guests will be Calvin April and The Pilgrim Wonders of Toledo, Ohio. Also slated to perform are the Aires of Joy, the Faithful Few, the Spiritual Harmoneers and the Shining Stars.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12.

WCDC meeting

The annual business meeting of the Webster County Development Council will be Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Eupora Depot.

Mississippi's Best Grassroots

Entertainment'

"Mississippi's Best Grassroots Entertainment," a free art show and concert, will be Jan. 23 in Mississippi State University's Lee Hall Auditorium.

Brent Funderburk (watercolor), Robert Long (ceramics), Andrew Lark (oil/realist), Tommy Thurman (landscape), Amy Richardson (gourds), Leland James (wood carver) and L.V. Hull (primitive art) will display their works in the lobby beginning at 6 p.m.

Country's Jeff Bates, a native Mississippian, will emcee and perform during the 7 p.m. concert that will also feature Nash Street (contemporary bluegrass). Larry Wallace Band (traditional bluegrass), Charlie Worsham (variety), Annie Caldwell and the Caldwells (gospel), Brice Miller (jazz) and Jesse Robinson (blues).

The program is supported in part by funding from the Mississippi Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Tummy Safe exam

offered Jan. 24

Tummy Safe is a food certification course for childcare providers. Tummy Safe offers six contact hours for childcare providers who complete the course and certification status for those who take and pass the certification exam.

This course complies with Mississippi law, which requires that at least one person in every licensed daycare center be certified in food safety. TummySafe was written specifically for the day care industry and replaces the previous ServeSafe course for childcare providers only.

Pamela Redwine, nutrition and food safety area agent for the Mississippi State University Extension Service, announces a Tummy Safe certification exam for daycare workers. It will be offered on Jan. 24 at the Calhoun County Extension Service in Pittsboro. The exam will begin at 2 p.m. and the cost to take the exam is $100, which can be paid by money order or cashiers check.

Before one can take the exam, he or she must work through the Tummy Safe CD. The cost of the CD is $25. To find out how to purchase a copy of the Tummy Safe CD, contact Redwine at 675-2730 or the local MSU Extension Service office at 258-3971.

Lipizzaner stallions

The world-famous Lipizzaner stallions will present their 37th anniversary presentation of the "Dancing White Stallions" on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Mississippi Horse Park in Starkville.

Regular admission adult tickets are $22.50 each. For children 12 and under and seniors 60 and over, regular admission tickets are $20.50 each.

Clarkson-Fame VFD

stew sale Jan. 27

The Clarkson-Fame Volunteer Fire Department will be selling stew at the firehouse on Jan. 27 for its spring fund-raiser. The department will be serving from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. or until it runs out of stew. Donations of money or ingredients for the stew would be appreciated.
