USM basketball team continues to show improvement on the court.

After picking up 10 wins in head coach Larry Eustachy's first year as head coach in 2004-05 and 11 wins in 2005-06, the USM men's basketball team has already improved on that.

When freshman Jeremy Wise hit a lay-up with one second left to give Southern Mississippi a 57-55 road win over Alabama-Birmingham on Saturday it moved the Golden Eagles to 12-5 overall and 2-2 in Conference-USA action. USM, which has had plenty of road woes including an embarrassing loss to Savannah State earlier this year, has now won two road conference games.

While the Golden Eagles' non-conference schedule has been weak this season, USM does have a 56-54 win over Auburn of the Southeastern Conference.

Southern Miss hosts East Carolina on Wednesday before facing powerful Memphis on the road at noon on Saturday.
