Mississippi Valley State suffers

embarrassing college baseball loss

There is not run-rule in college baseball.

Maybe after the way Mississippi Valley State got manhandled in the first game of its double-header sweep at the hands of Florida Atlantic on Saturday that should change.

While Florida Atlantic won the night-cap 11-7, it was the first game that raised a few eyebrows. The homestanding owls banged out 29 hits and set a school record for runs scored in a 33-3 thumping of the Delta Devils.

It is only a one-year deal, but there are talks of future games between the two schools.

Ackerman hosts East Oktibbeha in prep hoops action Thursday

The short drive to Choctaw County may be worth the time to prep basketball fans on Thursday night.

Ackerman hosts East Oktibbeha beginning at 6 p.m. in a showdown postponed from earlier in the year.

"It should be exciting if you are a high school basketball fan," said AHS head boys and girls basketball coach Gary Beals.

The East Oktibbeha boys feature Jenirro Bush, a Dandy Dozen selection by the Jackson Clarion-Ledger. But, it doesn't end there. The East Oktibbeha girls have a Dandy Dozen of their own in April Sykes.

The Ackerman boys lost to East Oktibbeha earlier in the season, but the two girls teams have yet to play. The AHS boys were 18-5 going into this week's action, while the Lady Indians were 22-3.

While Auburn was committing 25 turnovers in the game, the Rebels were making 11 steals. "We were making some things happen defensively," Kennedy said.

"That is something we have been talking about."

Bam Doyne scored 20 points for Ole Miss, while Auburn transfer Dwayne Curtis had 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Rebels. Todd Abernethy had 14 points and dealt out nine assists.

The 23-point was the second largest ever for Ole Miss over Auburn and the Rebels largest ever at Auburn.
