A traffic stop last week in Webster County resulted in a felony drug charge being filed against a Eupora man.
The arrest occurred the night of June 5 after Deputy Sheriff Tim Mitchell and Trooper Mitch Merlot of the Mississippi Highway Patrol had set up a roadblock at highways 404 and 9.
Mitchell said they smelled alcohol in one of the cars that was stopped and had one of the four occupants exit the vehicle. They searched the car and found an 8-ounce bag of marijuana, and after further investigation, found another 8-ounce bag of marijuana, he said.
One of the occupants, Anthony Terrell "P-Body" Johnson, 25, of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive was subsequently charged with possession of marijuana more than 30 grams. He was released from the county jail the next day after posting a $10,000 bond.
The driver, Phillip S. Redd, 26, of Westwood Drive is being held on a probation violation for the Mississippi Department of Corrections. The other two occupants were released, with one being ticketed for misdemeanor possession of alcohol in a dry county, according to Mitchell.
In an unrelated incident, an investigation into last week's theft of guns from a Maben residence resulted in the weekend arrests of two adults and a juvenile on charges of burglary and possession of stolen firearms.
The investigation and arrests involved Officers Perry Yates and Stanley Modzelewski of the Maben Police Department, and Deputy Sheriff Bobby Jackson. More details are to be published in next week's issue.
