Barbara E. Gore has announced that she is seeking re-election as tax assessor/collector for Webster County.
"I would like to take this time to thank the people of Webster County for allowing me to serve you the past four years as your tax assessor/collector," she stated. "I have gotten to know so many of you much better and the friendships we've made I will treasure forever. Four years have come and gone quickly and I would again ask for your support and your vote for this very important office.
"My staff and I have accomplished many good things in four years, but there is still more to be done. Four years ago, I promised you a more efficiently run office, hard work and dedication to my duties to serve you. We have come a long way in each of these areas.
Gore added, "For example I researched and found that we could collect 50 cents per tag sold from the state. This money is placed in a separate account earmarked only for replacing computer equipment, printers, etc for the Tax Office. I also did not hire a bookkeeper; I do the books myself. These are a few areas in which I have saved the taxpayers money. I will continue to search for more ways to save you money.
"During the last four years, I have become a certified appraiser and I recertify each year, as this is required to keep your certification. I also completed the course to become a Level I real property evaluator. You may ask the significance of this. These courses teach the different approaches to valuing property and how the value is arrived at. This vital information has everything to do with how your taxes are computed."
Gore also said, "I have also kept up with all current changes and revisions in the laws that affect you the taxpayer. Ann May, Carolyn Lane and Jane Norman are a wonderful group of ladies that work for you in this office. They show courtesy and the prompt customer service that you expect and deserve. In the past four years, my staff and I have collected more than $96,000 dollars in delinquent taxes from businesses that are no longer in Webster County.
"Many of you have come in with concerns about your taxes. I have done my very best to treat each problem as if it were my own and help you get this matter resolved as soon as possible and within the state guidelines. I also promised that my door would always be open. It has been and if re-elected always will be open to hear each of your concerns and problems or just to sit and talk and have a cup of coffee."
She further stated, "I also have worked hard to have a good working relationship with the Board of Supervisors and other county offices so this office and theirs can better serve you. I know Webster County has been hit hard with loss of industry and lack of jobs. I believe that all of the elected officials should work together to better serve you and your interests and make Webster County a place where businesses and corporations will be interested in coming here, which will in turn provide jobs for the people of this county. I will always be looking for ways to make this possible.
"For example I have provided accurate records to the Webster County Development Council on vacant factory buildings that exist here so they can recruit industry into the area and these buildings may once again be used for factories, warehouses etc. The people here in Webster County could have jobs at home. I believe by working together we can make Webster County a better place for all."
Gore concluded, "Again, I would like to ask you to consider what I have told you here and what I have done as your tax assessor/collector for the past four years. Consider my qualifications and my track record. I don't see this as my office, but your office, and if re-elected I will continue to work hard, educate myself and serve you to the best of my ability.
"I am out in the county now trying to see everyone personally but if I happen to miss you please consider this request for your vote and support on Aug. 7 for Barbara E. Gore tax assessor/collector Webster County. Thank you for your support."
