Third-place finisher Billy Brister trailed Mitchell by only 21 votes.

The runoff winner will face Independent candidate Rocky Mumphrey in the general election.

Others advancing to runoffs in the second primary election were:

€ Mike Adams and Earl Frost, Republican candidates for District 4 supervisor.

€ Doug Burgess and Jeff McMinn, Democratic candidates for District 5 supervisor.

€ Mark Jones and Howard Rodgers, Democratic candidates for District 1 constable.

An elector can only vote in the runoff election of the same party he or she voted in on Aug. 7.
