From Staff Reports
Primary runoffs in the 1st and 3rd congressional districts will be Tuesday, April 1. Polls will again be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at polling places in Webster County.
In the 1st District, Republicans Glenn McCullough of Tupelo and Southaven Mayor Greg Davis square off, along with Democrats Travis Childers of Booneville and Steve Holland of Plantersville. The 1st District includes all county precincts except Maben.
The runoff will decide party nominees for the post formerly held by U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker. The primary nominees will face off with two independents in the Nov. 4 general election.
In the 3rd District, which includes the Maben precinct only in Webster County, a Republican primary runoff will be held. Candidates are Eupora native Charlie Ross of Brandon and Gregg Harper of Pearl.
The winner will face Democrat Joel Gill in November. The winner of the general election will replace Rep. Chip Pickering, who is not seeking re-election.
Noon Saturday is the deadline to vote absentee at the circuit clerk's office. Voters cannot "cross over" and vote in a different party primary than they did on March 11; those who did not cast a ballot in the first primary may vote in either.
