From press and staff reports

The Winston County Sheriff's Office and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics in a joint effort arrested four persons for drugs and other charges.

On July 3, the Winston County Sheriff's Office and MBN in a joint effort served a search warrant on a residence located at 585 Bateman Road in the Nanih Waiya community. The officers obtained the search warrant based on information that a resident of the house, Gary Crosby, was a fugitive from justice with several felony warrants for his arrest from Kemper County.

The sheriff's office also had several complaints from members of the community about suspicious activities at that residence. As a result of the search warrant, four persons were arrested, including Gary Crosby, and charged with numerous narcotics violations.

The search of the residence revealed 473 grams of marijuana, having a street value of approximately $900; 60 grams of cocaine, having a street value of approximately $6,000; and $1,494 in cash. Also seized from the residence were four firearms - a Mac 11 sub-machine gun, a sawed-off shotgun, a 9mm handgun and a .38 special that had the serial numbers filed off. All of the seized property and cash will be held for forfeiture pending legal proceedings.

Sheriff Randy Thomas noted the sheriff's office would continue to investigate and seek more arrests.

The sheriff's office asks any citizen witnessing suspicious activities to please report it to the office at 773-5495.
