Principal Jim Ray plans to continue the good things already going on at East Webster Elementary School.

The school's new leader also said he is striving to provide for the changing needs and demands of today's student.

Son of Charlotte Ray and the late Jerome Ray, he grew up in Mantee and is a 1982 graduate of Cumberland High School. Ray's mother taught 36 years, with the majority of those spent at Cumberland. He is also the grandson of the late Coach Sam Henderson.

Ray earned a bachelor's degree in physical education and master's degree in educational leadership from Mississippi State University.

Ray most recently served as assistant principal at Central School (fifth and sixth grades) in West Point. Before that, he held coaching positions in Ripley, Tenn.; Ackerman; Philadelphia; Louisville; Noxapater; Neshoba Central and Guntown.

A deacon at Mantee Baptist Church, Ray enjoys hunting, fishing and working around the house.

He and his wife, Angela, have two daughters: Kelli, 11, and Kaitlin, 7. They reside in the Dancy community between Mantee and Maben.
