Candidates file for supervisor seats
The Webster Progress-Times
WALTHALL - Nine candidates have signed up so far to run for two county supervisor seats up for election.
The Nov. 3 election will be to fill Webster County Board of Supervisors vacancies in districts 2 and 4. District 2's Mart Salley died Oct. 31 and District 4's Larry Crowley died Dec. 30, both while still in office.
The board called a special election because the remainder of their unexpired terms exceeds six months. Qualifying for the open offices ends Sept. 4. If no candidate receives a majority of the votes cast in the nonpartisan special election, a runoff election will be Nov. 17 between the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes.
These candidates had returned qualifying papers at the circuit clerk's office as of Monday morning:
¥ District 2: Rodney F. Crowell, Patrick S. "Pat" Cummings, Mike "Pee-Wee" Davis, Joyce A. Pepper and Ruthie McCain Salley, who was appointed to serve in her husband's place until the special election.
¥ District 4: Paul Crowley, Field Johnson, David Kirkman and Chris Lott.
Another person also qualified in District 4 but later withdrew, according to the circuit clerk's office. Linda Crowley is serving as interim supervisor in her husband's place until the special election.
