Municipal elections set for Tuesday
The Webster Progress-Times
Eupora and Mathiston are among municipalities that will be having general elections next Tuesday.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 2. In the city of Eupora, voting will take place in the Community Center. Absentee voting will be available at City Hall from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Eupora Mayor Tommy Lott has two opponents in his re-election bid as a Republican candidate: Alderman at-large Jack Haney (Independent) and James "Pop" Woodard (Democrat.)
Alderman at-large candidates in the city are Dan Burchfield (I), now serving as Ward 2 alderman; Mike Ford (D) and former alderman Janice S. Gary (I).
In other contested Eupora Board of Aldermen races, Ward 1 candidates are incumbent Robert Calvin Mays (I) and Vickey D. Patterson (D). Ward 4 candidates are incumbent Henry "Hank Flowers and C.B. "Pete" Bailey, both Independents.
Billy Brister is unopposed in Ward 2 and incumbent Ricky Newton is unopposed in Ward 3.
In the town of Mathiston, Mayor Jimmy Carden is seeking another term against Marty Kilpatrick.
Running for the five at-large, non-partisan seats on the Mathiston Board of Aldermen are Matthew Carden, Lisa Craven, Earl Frost, Jeff Haney, Gary Jeffcoats, James C. Johnson, Lavelle McAlpin and Harvey Pinnix. Incumbent candidates are Carden, Frost, Haney, McAlpin and Pinnix.
Roger Miller is unopposed for re-election as marshal.
All incumbents in Mantee, Walthall and Maben are unopposed. Of those, only Walthall will still have to hold an election because it did not have one in 2005 and the secretary of state's office is requiring it to do so this year.
Walthall officeholders are Mayor Belinda Stewart; Aldermen Glendolyn Crowell, Rodney Crowell, Joe Hayes, Sherlene Stewart and Randy Tabb; and Marshal Benny Neal.
Mantee officeholders are Mayor Mary Frances Baker; and Aldermen Kim Davis, Pam Kelly, Barbara Pumphrey, Jimmy Stevens and Mary Turner. Kelly was appointed to finish Chris Shea's term after he resigned from the board a few months ago, according to Eddie Norman, town clerk. She was the only person who qualified for the seat.
Maben incumbents are Mayor Larry Pruitt; and Aldermen Darrell Bryant, Patty C. Harpole, Rufus Harris, Robert J. Herd and Harvey Jones.
