Man wanted in city shooting

The Webster Progress-Times

Authorities are seeking a man wanted in a city shooting that left another in the hospital.

The Eupora Police Department responded to a 911 call about 9:45 p.m. Sunday that a man had been shot in the roadway of Westwood Park outside the apartment/housing complex there.

Police Chief Gregg Hunter said witnesses reported that Jessie L. Sudduth shot Robert M. Bingham in the stomach, apparently after a verbal argument escalated. A bystander took the shooting victim to North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora and he was flown to NMMC in Tupelo.

Bingham, 45, of 326 S. Allen, was listed in fair condition Tuesday. Sudduth, 27, of 55 Judenary Road, fled the area and had not been apprehended as of Tuesday afternoon.

Deven Ronald Morel, 23, was arrested at the scene on charges of accessory before and after the fact to aggravated assault. Morel, of 104B Hodges Drive, was being held in the county jail on $10,000 bond.

Hunter alleges in affidavits that Morel provided Sudduth with a .380-caliber semiautomatic pistol used to commit the crime and helped him avoid arrest. Sudduth, a convicted felon on probation for aggravated assault, now faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon by a felon. Hunter said he is still considered to have the handgun.

Warrants against Sudduth have been entered into the National Crime Information Center and officers have been talking to family members, according to Hunter. He said anyone with information on Sudduth's whereabouts should use caution and contact the EPD at 258-4121.
