Lott re-elected mayor; Patterson wins seat
The Webster Progress-Times
Eupora Mayor Tommy Lott won a second term in Tuesday's general election and one city alderman was defeated in his re-election bid.
Complete but unofficial results show Lott (R) defeated two challengers with 377 votes, or about 52 percent of ballots cast in the mayor's race. James "Pop" Woodard (D) was second with 253 votes (35 percent) followed by Jack Haney (Independent) with 96 votes (13 percent).
Haney is now alderman at-large and will be replaced in that position by Dan Burchfield (I), who garnered 310 votes, or 43 percent, in that race. He is currently serving as Ward 2 alderman.
Mike Ford (D) placed second in the at-large race with 229 votes (32 percent) and Janice Gary (I) collected 183 votes (25 percent).
In other contested Eupora Board of Aldermen races, Vickey Patterson (D) defeated incumbent Robert Calvin Mays (I) in Ward 1 with 132 votes to 97.
Alderman Henry "Hank" Flowers won re-election to another term in Ward 4. He received 94 votes and opponent Charles "Pete" Bailey received 54; both ran as Independents.
Two candidates were unopposed: Billy Brister in Ward 2 and incumbent Ricky Newton in Ward 3.
City officials reported that fewer than 10 affidavit ballots were cast, an amount that would not change the outcome of any races.
Election results from Mathiston were unavailable at publication. All incumbents in Walthall, Mantee and Maben were unopposed for re-election. New municipal terms begin July 6.
