Dog control was again discussed by the Eupora Board of Aldermen at its last regular meeting.

City attorney Hugh Gibson updated the board Jan. 4 after the matter had been tabled from the previous meeting.

He presented a proposed letter he had prepared that would be mailed to owners of a dog or dogs "with dangerous propensities or disposition which could result in injuries to a person or persons."

The purpose of the letter, as previously discussed, would be to serve as a deterrent. The letter as drafted notifies such dog owners that, under state and local laws, they are required to restrain their dog(s) at all times within their house, inside a fenced yard or other secure enclosure, or on a lease. It notes that violations may result in criminal charges being filed against them.

After a long discussion, the issue was tabled again until the February meeting at 6 p.m. Monday.

In other business Jan. 4, the Board of Aldermen voted to:

¥ appoint Vickey Patterson (Ward 1) as city representative on the board of the Golden Triangle Regional Solid Waste Management Authority through Dec. 31, 2013.

¥ accept a resolution declaring street bonds as qualified tax-exempt.

¥ approve an interlocal fire agreement with Choctaw County.

¥ donate an older set of extrication equipment to the Bellefontaine Volunteer Fire Department as is and take it off the city inventory. The city Fire Department received new extrication equipment last year through a federal grant.

Mayor Tommy Lott and George Crawford of the Golden Triangle Planning and Development District conducted a public hearing Jan. 11 at City Hall. It dealt with a police truck grant application and included an update by inspector Jim Cresap of Calvert-Spradling Engineers about work done through a wastewater grant.
