Eupora's sales tax collections for January rose 14.74 percent from the same month the previous year, according to new figures.
Eupora reported sales tax collections of $37,972 in January, compared to $33,093 for the same month in 2009, a difference of $4,879, The city saw a 4.2 percent increase in December.
Year-to-date totals are down $1,246, or 0.44 percent. Since the state's fiscal year begins in July, year-to-date totals reflect collections beginning in June.
Mathiston's January collections were $13,755, down 16.63 percent from January 2009, when they were $16,500. The town's year-to-date collections are down $11,711, or 8.36 percent.
The state's sales tax collections have a three-month cycle. Tax is collected by the retailer one month; it is reported and paid to the state Tax Commission by the retailer the second month; and the diversion is paid to the cities by the Tax Commission the third month.
These figures reflect other area taxes collected on January sales with 2009 figures in parentheses:
