WCDC events, fundraisers discussed

Plans for upcoming events and fundraisers were discussed during the quarterly meeting of the Webster County Development Council on July 19.

Executive Director Cynthia Wilson also presented a report of economic and community development activities for the 12-month period ending June 30.

According to records of the meeting, work is continuing on a cookbook fundraising project. Additional recipes are needed and the organization hopes to have the cookbook out by December.

Other fundraising opportunities proposed included limited-edition numbered ornaments and customized clay coasters.

Announced during the meeting were these dates of note:

• Nov. 30: Lighting of the Depot Park with the theme "Scenes of Christmas" and BLY Festival of Wreaths opens.

• Dec. 1: Advent Walk starting at the Depot.

• Dec. 2: Miss Merry Christmas Pageant.

• Dec. 4: Christmas Market with the theme "Christmas Memories."

Miss Hospitality Aleasha Fulgham was introduced in conjunction with her preparations to compete in the Mississippi Miss Hospitality Pageant, which was this past weekend in Hattiesburg. She was one of the top four speech winners and placed in the top 10.

At the meeting, Fulgham previewed her 20-second commercial on Webster County and 90-second speech on how she would promote Mississippi to a visitor, both of which she presented during the pageant.

A membership drive will be getting under way soon. Wilson reported that total WCDC membership to date was 95 with 14 pending renewals.
